HOLIDAYS & TRADITIONS: "LA LOCA"

Hi everyone! I'm Ori and I'm from a small town in La Guajira called Los Pondores. My hometown is beautiful, people are kind and there are so many places to visit. However, today were are going to talk about the most popular tradition in my town, it is called LA LOCA.

Every Saint Wednesday or Wednesday of Ashes, adults go to the church to get the ash sign on their forehead while children are waiting just to run a crazy marathon. La loca is an old tradition that anyone can't remember when exactly it started, all what people know is that every year you need to run faster than la loca or you'll be punished by her whip.

This tradition consists in men who wear customes like they were homeless and they walk the town knocking the doors and asking for help, people offer them food or money and if they consider it is not enough they start throwing ashes, arguing and using their whip to punish people. Also, if they catch you they will play with you but it'll hurt because they are going to throw trash to you and everything what they can find.

Finally, I want to say that this tradition is recognized and people from other towns go to Los Pondores jus to have fun. What about you? Will you visit my town on Saint Wednesday?
